The Hunt For Gollum – Full Movie

Award winning unofficial prequel short film dramatising Aragorn & Gandalf’s long search for Gollum directed by British filmmaker Chris Bouchard. Based faithfully on the appendices of the books this is a non-profit, serious homage to the writing of J.R.R Tolkien and the films of Peter Jackson.

It was shot on locations in England and Snowdonia with a team of over a hundred people working over the Internet. It took two years to make and was released as a non-profit Internet-only video by agreement with Tolkien Enterprizes.

This Youtube version is slightly extended with 1 scene added back in.

  3. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

I thought this was brilliant. Aragorn was always my favourite character.

Being a LotR fan I'm surprised I just now discovered this short film. Well done! I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Aragorn captured Gollum in the Dead Marshes not in a forest. The guy that played Aragorn looks like Elijah Wood! 😆

This was such a short movie. Wish it was longer. I enjoyed it !!

For what it is , I give it a 10!!! I would love to see more of these films. Thanks for posting it! The effort put into this is epic!! BROVO BROVO.

  10. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Brilliant addition to the canon.

  11. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Not far from BRILLIANT

  12. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Very good film that looks very professional. The only real criticism I have is that Aragorn looks too young by at least fifteen years.

  13. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

At 13.11 there's a house or caravan in the background! Nevertheless this was very good, I enjoyed it.

  14. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Better than Jacksons hobbit!!!

  15. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Nicely done ! – not bad, not bad at all.
Thanks for letting us watch it for free.

  17. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

  19. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

This my 2nd time watching this movie. I like the actors for once….no "robots" this time. I love these movies n keep them coming!

Gandalf did not discover that the Nine had crossed the Anduin until being captured by Saruman. Here Aragorn is shown telling Gandalf that the Nine had come West which doesn't line up with the rest of the story (Gandalf not telling Frodo to set out from the Shire at once but rather letting him wait). Also Aragorn found Gollum near Mordor, not in Mirkwood. STILL AWESOME MOVIE

  21. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    4:46 where is he?

My. Goodness. Gracious. I hope the new Aragorn Tv series is this good and faithful to the lore. That was amazing. Better then that. What's a word for more then amazing?

  22. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

How come Gandalf here knows about the ring and that its in the Shire if in Lord of the Rings he knows nothing about its location?

  23. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    More please.

  24. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Great movie, great actors and cinematography!! Thank you, loved the score too.

  27. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Brilliant stuff 👍👍👍

  28. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Didn't Gandalf say that he looked for Gollum but the enemy got to him first? I'm thinking if the books and movies differ on that end.

  29. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Can't believe I haven't heard of this over the course of 8 years. What a fantastic film! Hell, I'd've given these guys the money I paid for first Hobbit movie. Thank you!

  30. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

This is bloody amazing! I did a fan LOTR film myself wouldn’t mind if you checked it out. It’s called ‘Mandore: The Orc Killer’.

  31. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    That was really cool 🙂

  32. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Excellent
Shows what you can do with good actors, imagination, cinematography and all with a limited budget
Orcs looked good, scenery perfect and Gollum's voice nailed

    Thx for posting.

  38. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Very very well done! Huge kudos to one & all!

  39. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

This is pretty damn good. The creators did it right for this and not just slapped together with shady edits and cgi and cheap acting. Great work!!

  40. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    no

  41. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Nice fan film. very well executed and the camera work is top notch. Better even than major hollywood studios. If this is part of the true tale then Aaragorn owes Gollum his Life for not killing him upon escaping from the bag he was captured in while Aaragorn was recovering from the poison wound he suffered.

  42. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Aragorn is hot!!!!!!!!

  43. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

Work on the stories of the Silmarillion next. Somebody's got to do it.

  44. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    This İs Amazing Film Congratulations

  45. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

I think this is my fourth viewing of this incredible rendition of Tolkiens writings. While not having the budget of Peter Jackson they've somehow produced a chunk of cinematic wonder worthy of the canon and immensely entertaining! Kudos to the producers of this – a work of obvious passion and love – and hopes you'll continue in the future. The scene at the end with Gollum bathed in light was beautiful although he would have avoided the light at all cost. I believe however that Bouchard and Co. given the budget would outshine Jacksons great series of films.

  46. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

An excellent job, congrats to the authors of this nice fan film

  47. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

    Damn well made.

  48. December 7, 2018 at 10:56 am

IMHO the Aragorn character had an extremely tough task to face, but when forgetting all about Peter Jacson and Viggo Mortensen and getting back to the books, he is actually more Aragorn looking (dark hair, green eyes) then the nordic type of Viggo Mortensen with thousand chesnut hair wigs on. Great choice to me. And  I am a devoted VM fan. On the other hand Arwen was a bit of a disaster to me. Nevertheless – great camera, awesome exteriers, pretty well managed fighting scenes. Overall an extremely well done fan film. My deep bows.
